Probably many of you already know the village
Shirakawago , because it is classified as a World Heritage site of 'UNESCO and is appreciated for the beautiful scenery in the mountains with a hundred houses in the style Gassho that have a sloping roof made of straws. Shirakawago became famous worldwide thanks to the book entitled "The rediscovery of Japanese beauty" writing by the famous German architect Bruno Taut in 1933 that there was Gassho and praised the style in his book. Shirakawago but unfortunately is in Japanese Alpine regions, it is not so easy to get from Tokyo to Kyoto is especially for individual travelers. So today I would like to present another equally beautiful countryside with houses of straw roof, however, less known. The campaign schiama Miyama, is located 50km north of the city of Kyoto, but also in the province of Kyoto, you can get there in a couple of hours in public bus (with the private car about an hour and a half). There are about 200 houses Kayabuki (the roof of straws) around the town of Miyama, especially in the area there are 38 homes Kitamura well gathered all pointing in the same direction to the sun evenly. There are some differences between Miyama and Shirakawago, especially the style of roof is not Gassho, is Irimoya which is composed of four areas. Then the houses of Shirakawago are huge for the style of life for a time (the oldest is 5 floors in the past more than 35 people living there because the house functioned as a gunpowder factory) instead of the houses are more Miyama small and one floor. Shirakawago unfortunately has become very touristy but here you can still imagine the daily life of residents who are very welcoming. The most beautiful thing for me is that here there are delicious dishes!
